New coffee machine

My coffee machine gave up this week. I had a look at fixing it but the machine is not end user repairable. This has been a trusted friend over the last few years and has seen heavy use since the arrival of Snuffleufugus. After close to three years of intensive use and producing on average 5 coffees a day I’m ok with this but it poses a dilemma of what to do about replacing it.

The options included getting a competitive pod machine, a real espresso maker, a stovetop espresso jug, and a replacement. I had a look at getting a real espresso machine but decided it would be easier to do a straight replacement of the Nespresso machine. Cue a trip to my local JB hi-fi.

Adelaide Hills Weekend

I was lucky enough to be able to spend last weekend in the Adelaide Hills with my family and friends.  The Adelaide Hills are around 30 minutes drive from the CBD, and have wineries, breweries, and great spots for food.

As this was a family outing, and the first trip on a plane for Snuffleufugus, there was a bit of planning required.  This was mainly around how to make our lives, and those of other people on the plane a bit easier with a baby on board. Continue reading “Adelaide Hills Weekend”

Kimberleys Food Prep

The biggest problem that I’m hoping to face on this trip is food. The reality of three and a half weeks on the road with a week between major towns means that a bit of planning is needed.  To this end I’ve grabbed some steaks, snags, and burgers from Harvey Beef and put them into vacuum sealed bags.  This should maximise space and keep everything for as long as possible.

As well as this I’ve packed some Weet Bix and dairy products for breakfast and snacks, and most importantly the milk will help with my Nespresso fix in the morning.

Lunch will be cold cuts, antipasto, and sandwiches on travel days, to be honest anything I can eat whilst driving.

I’m hoping to catch some fish, however given my complete lack of ability so far I’m putting this into the “it might happen, but just in case” basket.  To help here I have a couple of rods and reels, some tackle kits, and a filleting kit.  If anything is caught the vacuum sealer and freezer will help to keep it as fresh as possible, for as long as possible.

Add some junk food to this and I’m good to go.

Coffee – Part One

Coffee is one of my favourite things in the world and you can normally find me working in a coffee shop somewhere in Perth and Adelaide.  This means that I tend to look for a coffee shop with great coffee, free wifi, power, and understanding staff. Normally i can find three of the four, power is still an issue.

Whilst I’m still looking for this Nirvana for the modern day road warrior I’ve also bought a Nespresso machine recently and been very impressed with it. On the days when I don’t have meetings in the city and for just general coffee fixes this is a superb way of getting coffee very quickly. Continue reading “Coffee – Part One”
